East Boston Savings Bank (EBSB) created the Meridian Charitable Foundation
in 1998 to benefit charitable organizations focused on serving residents
of East Boston, Winthrop, Revere, Saugus, Lynnfield, Peabody and other
North Shore communities. The foundation has a principal funding of
$1 million from EBSB. Each year, the interest earned from the investment
of these funds is used for a pool of money that is distributed among
qualified recipients.
An organization must be a charitable Massachusetts corporation (501(c)(3))
as defined under IRS letter section 170(b)(1)(A)(6) in order to be
eligible for a grant. Organizations interested in obtaining a grant
must submit an application.
Application deadline for 2008 grants is July 18, 2008.
